The Global Institute on Innovation Districts is an independent, global-reaching not-for-profit organization that conducts independent, practice-oriented research on innovation districts and provides them with hands-on support
Unlike traditional science and technology parks, innovation districts are urban geographies of innovation —dense, mixed-use environments where universities, medical institutions, companies, and startups cluster to accelerate discovery and commercialization. Innovation districts are pioneering solutions in areas such as energy transition, advanced cellular therapies for children, and climate adaptation, among other pressing global challenges.
To support their growth, GIID develops novel methodologies to surface districts’ existing and emerging capabilities, leads a Global Network of more than 50 districts to enable deep peer learning, and undertakes strategic engagements with select districts to accelerate their advancement.
In under five years, President and Co-founder Julie Wagner and a team of leading researchers and practitioners have established GIID as the global authority on innovation districts —cited by McKinsey, partnering with the World Economic Forum’s Center for Urban Transformation, and featured in Fortune, Monocle, and other leading outlets.
